Shanghai Tang presents blooms to wear for this summer
Look ahead to the boundless possibilities of summer in
Shanghai Tang’s latest womenswear, with pieces made
memorable by the key motif of mystical ginger flower
butterflies and sculptural silk roses.
The name of Shanghai Tang’s SS23 womenswear
collection “Cheng Hua” (撑花) is inspired by woman who
came in the rainwith an umbrella like a flower blooming,
enjoying the rosy night in the busy Shanghai city.
Like an old painting, the model is styled in vintage hairstyle,
slightly drenched, photographed in a blurred lens
to mimic a rainy night in Shanghai. The black and gold
combination that runs through this series gives an intellectual
demeanour with a gold sparkle, while the cream white
brings femininity and serenity to the collection.
Butterfly Soul
The "Butterfly Soul” (蝶魄) print in velvet depicts the
form of the brand’s signature fragrance’s
key ingredient---the ginger flower, and is
combined with a butterfly
which conveys the free spirit of a woman.
Planting Roses
In “Planting Roses” (種薔薇), the craft of traditional Chinese
silk flower handicraft was applied. This craft is a Chinese
cultural craft with a long history. With this technique,
experienced embroiderers used ribbon embroidery to
create a layered process, each bloom is unique and are
delicately expressed as if they were growing on the
garments, hence the name "planting roses".
Designed with a lady in mind who is reserved and elegant
as the rose, but inadvertently blooming with charm
and strength. Comfort and wearability is important
for a busy lady, hence meticulously cut shirt,
shift dress and relaxed fit suit jacket were made
of breathable natural fabrics. A range of heavy
to light weight silk, cotton and velvet
were used throughout the collection.
