Shanghai Tang's applied the Chinese traditional culture concept of "Wuxing" (Five Elements) to these 5 Silk Tang jackets which can be worn on both sides. The jacket is available in five colours, each corresponding to one of the five elements, and is embellished with the embroidery of the Chinese characters for "Wood, Fire, Earth, Gold, and Water" on the pocket. The reversible side is made with a contrasting colour silk showcasing a five-pointed star jacquard. On this side, the pocket is decorated with Shanghai Tang's heritage crest logo.
Everything in the universe is composed of the operation (movement) and cyclical changes of the five basic elements of wood, fire, earth, gold, and water. It is an ancient Chinese philosophy of simple materialism.



Wood, with the characteristics of hair growth and texture, is green.
Fire, with hot and upward characteristics, is red.
Earth, with the characteristics of long-term cultivation and chemical cultivation, is yellow.
Gold, with the characteristics of tranquility and killing, is white.
Water, with cold, downward quality, is black.
