Shanghai Tang has applied the Chinese traditional culture concept of "Wuxing" (Five Elements) to these 5 silk scarves. Available in five colours, each scarf corresponds to one of the five elements, and is embellished with the embroidery of the Chinese characters for "Wood, Fire, Earth, Gold, and Water", while the other side is made with a contrasting colour silk showcasing a five-pointed star jacquard and Shanghai Tang's heritage crest logo.
Everything in the universe is composed of the operation (movement) and cyclical changes of the five basic elements of wood, fire, earth, gold, and water. It is an ancient Chinese philosophy of simple materialism.



Wood, with the characteristics of hair growth and texture, is green.
Fire, with hot and upward characteristics, is red.
Earth, with the characteristics of long-term cultivation and chemical cultivation, is yellow.
Gold, with the characteristics of tranquility and killing, is white.
Water, with cold, downward quality, is black.
